OVU’s mission is to provide a platform for Correctional Officers and professional staff to have their voices heard and their concerns addressed in the ongoing debates over reforming our correctional system. Our annual event "Elevating Our Profession" was created to do just that while honoring, inspiring and celebrating the corrections profession. This year's event takes place April 24th to 26th in Chicago, IL. Registration is now closed. Below you can find the event schedule and details about travel and accommodations.     Wednesday, April 24

    Pick up your event credentials and more.

    6pm - 9pmWelcome Reception

    Reconnect with past participants and meet new ones, all while enjoying some live entertainment, light fare and an open bar. Hosted by FOP Corrections Lodge 263. Shuttles to and from the reception will be provided by OVU starting at 5:30pm from the hotel lobby. Last shuttle leaves hotel at 7:15pm. You'll need your event credentials to attend so be sure to pick up your badge at registration first at the 14th floor foyer.

    It is premature to say there is one best way to address the wellness crisis. In this session, hear from participants and practitioners who piloted wellness initiatives, and workshop the wellness principles a blueprint for what a best-in-class staff wellness program, standards and frameworks should include.

    1:30pm - 5pmAdvancing OVU's Pillars (Simultaneous Workshops)

    OVU’s work is centered around 4 core pillars of the correctional system recruitment & retention, staff wellness, staff training and conditions of confinement. Participate in one of these three workshops aimed at addressing components of these pillars.

    - Narrative Change: A messaging and storytelling workshop it’s time to change the narrative and humanize correctional staff. (limited space, sign-up at registration is required for this workshop). / Location: Lake House

    - Visit before you Vote: A national campaign to educate and engage decision makers on the realities of corrections before they make sweeping changes to policy or vote on funding decisions. / Location: Shakespeare House

    - Comparing Notes: As the workforce and job expectations are changing so dramatically across corrections, both at home and abroad, take this opportunity to participate in a conversation with international guests about best practices and lessons learned. / Location: American House

    National Medal of Honor

    The One Voice United National Medal of Honor seeks to promote excellence in the field of Corrections by recognizing the brave individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty while protecting public safety. Awardees are selected through a national nomination process. Nominations for this year's award have now closed. Honorees will be recognized at this year's event on Friday, April  26.
